CerMark Application and Spray Tips

Instruction for applying CerMark Laser Marking Material:
  • Select the proper CerMark Laser Marking Material for the particular use.
  • Be sure area to be marked is clean, and free of oil and foreign material.
  • CerMark Laser Marking Material may be used as supplied. If using a Preval Spray Gun system it may be thinned with commercially available denatured alcohol. Mix the marking material thoroughly after diluting. Marking Material should be mixed 2 parts marking material to no more that 1 part denatured alcohol.
  • Apply CerMark Laser Marking Material to the surface of the part to be marked. Laser marking material is best applied with a continuous application to achieve a smooth, thin, uniform coating on the surface. Varying thickness' of the coating will change the color and strength of the mark   more is not better.
  • Allow the CerMark Laser Marking Material to dry - a fan, heat gun, hot plate, warming lamp, or oven may be used. CerMark laser Marking Material will not mark if wet.
  • Set part into laser marking system. Adjust focus of laser and the controls, See parameter tables for setting using a CO2, YAG, or DPSS Fiber Laser. A sample test mark is always recommended.
  • Laser mark the part.
  • Clean by wiping or rinsing off excess marking material with clean water. A spray bottle of water works well for small parts. For large jobs the CerMark may be washed off in to a wash pan and recovered for reapplication.

Tips for spraying CerMark Laser Marking Material:

  • With the use of a Preval Spray Gun, test spray the laser marking material at full concentration to determine how it sprays through the Preval Spray Gun. Marking material should neither be so thin it is runny or so thick it sputters out of the spray head. Always wash the Preval Spray Head and delivery tube in warm water after use.
  • If need, laser marking material may be diluted with denatured alcohol. Pour marking material into the jar for spraying. Start by adding 1 tablespoon of denatured alcohol to thin per ounce, shake to mix, and then do another test spray. Continue diluting as needed. Some laser marking material may need more thinning than others.
  • Marking material should be applied in a smooth even coating.  Spray only enough to cover the surface. Once covered do not keep coating the surface.
  • Hold the Preval sprayer about 10"-12" from the surface to be sprayed. Start spraying off on the side of the surface and continue past the opposite edge, this will reduce build up of  marking material in one area.
  • Spray moving the marking material over the surface in a slow even manner. Constantly moving the Preval Sprayer over the surface will avoid clumping and running of the CerMark Marking Material. If the surface is not evenly coated in one pass, continue ,making passes over the surface until none of the surface can be seen through the CerMark Marking Material. Usually only two spray passes are need for total covering with the Preval Spray Gun.
  • Cap the Preval Spray Bottle after used. do not leave the gas cylinder and spray head on the glass bottle. Always wash the Preval Spray Head and delivery tube in warm water after use.
